Tami S.
Maes, M.S., BCIA-C, Licensed Recreational Therapist, is trained and certified in biofeedback through
the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America. While completing her masters degree from East Carolina University, she
held the position of Research Assistant at ECU's Psychophsysiology and Biofeedback Lab, developing and implementing several research studies, utilizing
EEG to help children with ADHD and youth at risk in the community. In 2005, she was appointed an Intern position at National
Institutes of Health where she employed Heart Rate Variability to measure autonomic nervous system functioning in patients
with substance abuse disorders. For her Master's thesis, Tami researched the psychological aftermath of a natural
disaster in children suffering with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
In May of 2006, Ms. Maes started her
own incoporation, Capital Biofeedback, where she practices biofeedback techniques as she incorporates recreational therapy
interventions, helping her clients manage their responses to stress more efficiently, achieve relaxation and improve
focus and attention.
Ms. Maes serves clientele both privately and contracts with other entities in Greenville, NC and Raleigh NC. Beginning January
2008, Ms. Maes teamed up with East Carolina University to implement biofeedback and neurofeedback training with Marines returning from deployment to assist recovery of Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury. Read more from Raleigh's News & Observer.
Her areas of specialty include treatment of ADD/ADHD,
chronic pain, traumatic brain injury, depression, anxiety, and PTSD for children and adults.
